CASE STUDY · EDUCATION & ARTS
The only Vaganova-accredited association in Asia-Pacific. And almost nobody knew.
How Avilys took a one-of-a-kind dance education association — with no website, no socials, and one masterclass to its name — and built the digital foundation that turned its premium masterclasses into a sold-out programme.
WHEN WE STARTED
A unique credential, completely invisible online.
The Asia-Pacific Ballet Association came to Avilys with one of the most distinctive credentials in regional dance education: it is the only association in Asia-Pacific accredited by the Vaganova Academy in Russia to officially use the Vaganova method and name. The association was set up to bring this method — the foundation of Bolshoi, Mariinsky and Royal Ballet training — into the region through masterclasses, scholarships to ballet schools in Russia and Japan, and teacher training programmes that licensed the method to other dance schools.
None of which was visible.
When we started, the association had no website, no social channels, no online presence at all. They had run a single masterclass. They hadn’t announced their scholarship winners publicly. The work was real, the credential was real, the impact was real — but the institution was effectively unfindable. Programmes were plateauing because nobody knew they existed.
The brief was clear: build the digital foundation that lets a one-of-a-kind regional institution actually function as one.
THE POSITIONING CALL
Exclusive credential. Open access.
The strategic question was how to position an association that was both genuinely exclusive (the only Vaganova-accredited body in the region) and genuinely accessible (whose mission was to bring the method to as many serious students and teachers as possible). Lean too hard into exclusivity and you alienate the audience the mission was built to serve. Lean too hard into accessibility and you forfeit the prestige that justifies the price point.
We made the call to do both, deliberately. The brand was built to communicate institutional authority — the credential, the lineage, the standards — while the messaging consistently positioned APBA as opening access. Opening access to the masterclasses. Opening access to the scholarship pathway. Opening access to teacher training that licensed the method to other schools, multiplying its reach across the region.
This was the through-line that made every other piece of work cohere: a premium institution with a regional remit.
WHAT WE BUILT
Three HIVE modules, working as one system.
The work spanned the modules below. Each one connected to the others, each informing the next — all built around the institutional voice the positioning call defined.
SEO foundations and paid amplification.
SEO content built around how serious dance students and parents actually search — not how dance schools think they should. Paid social amplification on the strongest content, targeted at audiences across Singapore, the Philippines and the wider region the masterclasses were built to serve.
WordPress site with Stripe-integrated payment.
Native WordPress build with a Stripe gateway integrated directly into the masterclass registration flow, so prospects could discover, evaluate and purchase a S$2,000 masterclass place in a single session. Visual identity refined into something elegant and considered — a long way from the drab black the original brand had defaulted to.
3x weekly content and a strategic influencer circle.
Three-times-a-week publishing rhythm across Instagram, with content strategy built around what would actually land with serious young dancers and the parents who guide them. Influencer partnerships unlocked through Avilys’s own network — specifically with dance student creators APBA wanted to attract into their scholarship circle. The result wasn’t broadcast amplification. It was a deliberate community of recognised young talent built around the institution.
THE CREDENTIAL
The only Vaganova-accredited association in the entire Asia-Pacific region.
The Vaganova method — named after Agrippina Vaganova — is the foundation of classical ballet training at institutions like the Bolshoi, the Mariinsky, and the Royal Ballet. The Vaganova Academy in Russia accredits a small number of associations worldwide to officially teach and use the name. APBA is the only one in Asia-Pacific. That credential existed before Avilys arrived. The case study is about making it work commercially.
WHAT CHANGED
From one masterclass to sold-out programmes.
Within months, the digital foundation started compounding. The masterclasses sold out at S$2,000 per seat — a price point that requires real commercial demand, not just curiosity. Instagram followers doubled. Sold-out masterclasses brought more participants into the showcase circuit, which in turn surfaced more candidates for the scholarship pathway to ballet schools in Russia and Japan.
Every part of the system started feeding the next. Marketing fed registrations. Registrations fed showcases. Showcases fed scholarship applications. The institution was finally functioning as the regional flywheel it had always been built to be.
The credential was there from the beginning. The job was making the credential reach the audience it was always meant to serve.
DELIVERED THE FOUNDATION
Six months, foundations built, handed over.
The engagement ran for six months. Unlike a long-running retainer, this was a focused build — designed to give APBA the digital infrastructure, content engine, and audience momentum it needed to operate at the scale its mission required. By the end of the engagement, the website, the payment flow, the social presence and the influencer circle were all running. The institution had what it needed to keep building from there.
That’s a different shape of case study from a multi-year retainer — but it’s still a real one. Some businesses need an embedded marketing partner for years. Others need someone to come in, build the foundations properly, and hand them over in a state that compounds without further intervention. Avilys does both.
